Psalms 17:7-9
I believe the KJV is clear and unambiguous in its meaning. The psalmist asking God that he be precious in His sight and to be protected like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings for the wicked.
Luke 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
